I just got back from a DC*B/ Tyrone Wells concert and it was awesome.  It was really cool because I bought a ticket for my friend as a belated b-day gift and I know she had an awesome time as well.  I am a really big fan of Crowder and now I really like Wells.  I like his style, it was definitely original and wow he could really sing great!  Here are some pictures, they’re kinda rough because they were taken from my phone but oh well, you get some of the feel.  I also found a video of TW on you tube singing his song Sea Breeze and posted it as well.

Where the Streets Have No Name

For anyone who is a U2 fan and a fan of Chris Tomlin, this song is a must buy/ listen.  This song was originally done by U2 and then redone by Tomlin for the In the Name of Love album which was done to unite artists for the benefit of Africa (9.99 on itunes).  Here is a video with the version from Chris Tomlin playing in the background.  It is pretty good!

How many capos do a guy need?

I have too many capos of all kinds and shapes and colors.  I think I have about 5 of them.  I have 2 kwik change Kyser capos, 1 short cut Kyser capo, 1 Shubb capo (this is the best one), and 1 of the Glider capos (I don’t really recommend these… I don’t really like it)

Anyways, it is really necessary for me to have this many capos?  I know people that play without them completely and in fact don’t even own one.  Oh well, I guess the true measure of a worship leader is a capo!

Podcasts… the future?

So this is totally a random post… I was looking at how many podcasts I subscribe and realized that there is a good number with a great variety.  Here is a list that you might find helpful if you are like me someone who loves music, youth group, and of course listening to messages.

I subscribe to the following (All can be found on itunes)

C. S. Lewis- sermon audio, the Fresh Worship Podcast, Higher Praise Podacst, Let My People Think with Ravi Zaccarias, The Living Room: Buckhead Church College Ministry, Mars Hill Bible Church with Rob Bell, Menlo Park Pres Sermons with John Ortberg, North Point Community Church and North Point Ministries with Andy Stanley, The Passion Podcast with Louie Giglio, Reveal: A Worship Resource, The School of Worship Podcast, the SYM Podcast with Doug Fields and the gang, the Skit Guys Podcast, Worship Central Podcast with Tim Hughes and Al Gordon, and 2 different podcasts from Youth Specialties.

I think the total number of podcasts that I haven’t had a chance to listen to yet are like 250+, I have a bunch that I have listened to and transferred to my external hard drive.

Hope that might help someone out there!

Worship music, macs, loops, and lots and lots of software

I was thinking about everything that I would like to buy one day so I can write and record my own stuff and I came to the realization that it is going to cost a lot of money.

I would like to buy a mac book pro so I can record loops like the pros do, buy logic pro software for when I compose, buy an ear training software to help with that, recording equipment (I’ve always had the dream of having my own studio in my house or close to it), and so much more!

God of this City

The new Passion CD is awesome! There are some new songs and some old ones which make it a pretty good CD. The older songs include Let God Arise; Shine; Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone); Dancing Generation; You are God; and We Shine.

All of these songs are good in themselves but the newer recordings include Walk this World, God of Yesterdays and 3 of my new favorites Sing, Sing, Sing; Hosanna; and God of this City.

The title track is a great song with a great message behind it- This song came as a prophecy from a band called Blue Tree when they were on a mission trip in Padi, Thailand. Padi has over 30,000 prostitutes over the age of 18. This number doesn’t include men or children.

While Blue Tree was on this mission trip they were allowed to play in a Brothel and the only thing that the people who ran the brothel said that everyone who came with the band needed to buy a coke. While they were playing there this song came forth and it was given to them by God.

Here are the lyrics and a video (not of Chris Tomlin singing this song but more of the song being put into practice with Tomlin singing in the background.)

Check out the lyrics yourself…

You’re the God of this city,

You’re the King of these people,

You’re the Lord of this nation. You are.

You’re the light in this darkness,

You’re the hope to the hope to the hopeless,

You’re the peace to the restless. You are.

There is no one like our God

There is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come

Greater things are still to be done in this city

And here is the video…

Oh Happy Day

This is a song off Hold Nothing Back, which is the latest release from Tim Hughes. This song is great, its very upbeat and has great lyrics. I have placed both in this post.

The greatest day in history, Death is beaten
You have rescued me
Sing it out Jesus is alive
The empty cross, The empty grave
Life eternal You have won the day
Shout it out Jesus is alive
He’s alive

Oh happy day, happy day
You washed my sin away
Oh happy day, happy day
I’ll never be the same
Forever I am changed

When I stand, in that place
Free at last, meeting face to face
I am Yours Jesus You are mine
Endless joy, perfect peace
Earthly pain finally will cease
Celebrate Jesus is alive
He’s alive

Oh what a glorious day
What a glorious way
That You have saved me
Oh what a glorious day
What a glorious name

What a glorious glorious day,
I’ll never be the same

Peanut Butter Dodgeball Anyone?

While blogging about a worship, I noticed a picture, from a youth group dodgeball game, that I have on my computer.  And it got me thinking and remembering a very chaotic but fun night when we played peanut butter dodgeball.

The way you play is you take a dodgeball and totally cover it with peanut butter.  It’s a lot of fun and is very messy!

After the peanut butter wore off we covered it with chocolate syrup and once that wore off, we ended up having an egg fight.

My friend, Sean, always comments whenever I talked about it… he always says “dude, you weren’t supposed to play all of those in one night!”

Anyways, it ended up resulting in my getting chewed out by a parent and was made into a big ordeal.

So why am I telling you this?  Because I want you to know that if you play peanut butter dodgeball than be prepared for mess and for the possibility of getting chewed out!
